Cockroach Control Singapore

Cockroaches are one of Singapore’s most stubborn — and unhygienic — pests. Our warm, humid climate lets them breed all year round, and a flat with a handful of roaches on show usually has many more hidden in cracks, drains and wall voids. They spread bacteria across food surfaces, trigger allergies and asthma, and multiply fast. Spot-spraying the ones you can see rarely solves it. Insect Out treats the source and breaks the breeding cycle, so the problem actually goes away instead of coming back next month.
The cockroaches we deal with
Two species cause the vast majority of home infestations in Singapore, and they need very different strategies.
- German cockroaches — small (around 1.5cm), light brown, and incredibly fast-breeding. A single female can be responsible for tens of thousands of descendants in a year. They love warm, humid spots: behind fridges, under sinks, inside kettles, microwaves and rice cookers, and along cabinet hinges. If you’re seeing small roaches in the kitchen, this is almost always the culprit, and indoor baiting is the answer.
- American cockroaches — large (3–4cm), reddish-brown, and capable of short flights. These tend to come *in* from outside: up through floor drains, rubbish chutes, sewer lines and gaps around pipes. Controlling them is as much about sealing entry points as it is about treatment.
Knowing which species you have changes everything, which is why we always start with identification. You can read more on the types of cockroaches in Singapore and why you have cockroaches in the first place.
Why DIY sprays usually fail
Supermarket sprays kill the roaches they touch, but they do nothing to the nest. Worse, repellent sprays can scatter a German cockroach population — pushing them deeper into wall voids and neighbouring units, where they keep breeding. People often spray for weeks, see fewer roaches for a few days, then watch the numbers climb again. The egg cases (oothecae) are also resistant to many sprays, so even a good knockdown leaves the next generation to hatch. Lasting control comes from baiting and treating where roaches actually live and breed, not from chasing the ones that wander into the open.
Signs you have a cockroach problem
- Live roaches scattering when you switch on the kitchen light at night.
- A musty, oily smell in cupboards — a sign of a heavier infestation.
- Droppings that look like ground pepper or coffee grounds along cabinet edges and drawer runners.
- Smear marks, shed skins, and small brown egg cases in cracks and corners.
If you’re noticing any of these, it’s worth acting early — populations grow quickly. Our guide to cockroach infestation signs covers what to look for in more detail, and you can check whether cockroaches are dangerous for the health side.
How we get rid of them
- Inspection — we find harbourage points, entry routes and breeding sites, and confirm the species so the treatment matches the pest.
- Targeted treatment — gel baits, residual treatment and crack-and-crevice application placed exactly where roaches harbour: hinge corners, cabinet edges, behind and under appliances, and along drain lines. Roaches feed on the bait, return to the nest, and the active ingredient spreads through the population — including roaches you never see.
- Growth regulators where needed — for heavier infestations, insect growth regulators stop young roaches maturing and breeding, which collapses the population over a few weeks.
- Prevention advice — we show you where they’re getting in and breeding, and how to keep it that way: sealing gaps, managing food and moisture, and screening openings.
What cockroach control costs in Singapore
Pricing depends on the size of your home, the species, and how established the infestation is. A single German-cockroach treatment in an HDB kitchen costs less than a whole-home programme for a heavily infested landed property, and severe cases usually need a follow-up visit to catch newly hatched roaches. HDB, condo and landed: what differs
In HDB flats and condos, shared walls, rubbish chutes and common drainage mean roaches can move between units, so treatment focuses on sealing internal entry points and baiting kitchens and bathrooms thoroughly. In landed homes, external drains, gardens and larger floor areas mean American cockroaches are more common, and proofing drains and pipe penetrations matters as much as indoor baiting. Whatever your home type, treating the source and closing the doors behind it is what keeps roaches out.
Keep them from coming back
Treatment clears what’s there; prevention stops the next wave. The basics make a real difference:
- Cut off food: store dry goods in sealed containers, clear crumbs and food debris nightly, and don’t leave pet food out overnight.
- Cut off water: fix dripping taps, dry sinks and showers, and wipe down wet surfaces before bed — German cockroaches survive on very little moisture.
- Cut off shelter: declutter under sinks and behind appliances, and clear cardboard and paper piles, which are prime hiding and egg-laying spots.
- Close the doors: most roaches enter through open windows, doors, drains and chutes. Pairing treatment with insect mesh screens keeps flying American cockroaches out while your windows stay open.
