Termite Control Singapore

Termites cause expensive, often hidden damage — quietly eating through floors, door frames, skirting, parquet and furniture long before you notice anything is wrong. In Singapore’s warm, humid climate they’re a year-round threat, and a colony can number in the hundreds of thousands, consuming timber 24 hours a day. By the time you see visible damage, the infestation is usually well established. Early detection and the right treatment can save you thousands in repairs. Our termite treatment and anti-termite solutions target the colony itself, not just the damage you can see.
Termites in Singapore
- Subterranean termites — by far the most destructive type here. They nest in the soil and build mud tubes to tunnel up into buildings, reaching timber, floorboards and even paper and cardboard. They’re responsible for the overwhelming majority of serious termite damage in Singapore homes. Read more in subterranean vs drywood termites.
- Drywood termites — these infest furniture, doors, skirting and structural timber without needing any soil contact, surviving on the moisture within the wood itself. They’re common in older furniture and timber fittings. See our guide to drywood termites in Singapore.
You may also notice flying termites (alates) swarming around lights after rain — a sign that a mature colony nearby is sending out new kings and queens to start more colonies.
Why DIY termite treatment rarely works
It’s tempting to spray a can of insecticide on visible termites or paint over the damage, but this only kills the few workers you can reach while the colony — and the queen — keep producing thousands more. Subterranean termites in particular live out of sight in the soil and wall voids, so surface treatments never reach the source. Worse, disturbing them can cause the colony to abandon one area and quietly attack another part of the house. Effective termite control means either eliminating the whole colony through baiting, or creating a treated barrier the termites can’t cross — both of which need professional products and placement.
Warning signs to watch for
- Mud tubes — pencil-width mud trails running up walls, skirting, pipes or foundations.
- Hollow-sounding timber — wood that sounds papery or hollow when tapped, because termites eat it from the inside.
- Discarded wings — small piles of identical wings near windowsills and lights after a swarm.
- Bubbling or cracked paint and warped, sagging floorboards or door frames.
- Frass — tiny pellets of drywood-termite droppings beneath infested furniture.
Our guide to signs of termites in your home covers each of these in detail. If you live in an HDB flat, also see termite damage in HDB flats, since shared structures and timber doors are common entry points.
Our approach
- Inspection — we locate active termites, entry points, mud tubes and the extent of the infestation, and identify the species so the treatment is correct. Our free termite inspection tells you exactly what we’ll check.
- Treatment — depending on the situation, we use a baiting system (termites feed on bait stations and carry a slow-acting agent back to wipe out the colony, including the queen) and/or targeted soil and timber treatment to create a protective barrier and treat infested wood directly. Our guide to anti-termite treatment explained walks through how each method works.
- Protection — we advise on reducing moisture, removing timber-to-soil contact, and clearing the conditions that attract termites, so a new colony doesn’t move in.
What termite treatment costs in Singapore
Termite treatment is priced according to the type of termite, the size of the property, and the method needed — a localised drywood treatment on a single piece of furniture costs far less than a full subterranean baiting programme with a soil barrier around a landed home. Many colony-elimination programmes are staged over several weeks with monitoring, which is reflected in the price. Because termite damage compounds over time, acting early is almost always cheaper than waiting. See termite treatment cost in Singapore for a detailed breakdown, and how to choose a pest control company before you commit.
HDB, condo and landed: what differs
In HDB flats and condos, termites most often arrive through timber doors, door frames, parquet flooring and built-in cabinetry, and can travel between units via shared structures — so treatment focuses on the affected timber and entry points. In landed homes, subterranean termites coming up from the surrounding soil are the bigger risk, which is where soil treatment and perimeter baiting matter most. We tailor the programme to your property type.
Prevention and protection
Once a property is clear, keeping it that way comes down to denying termites moisture and easy access to timber:
- Fix leaks and improve ventilation in damp areas — termites need moisture.
- Keep soil, mulch and stored timber away from direct contact with the building.
- Inspect second-hand furniture before bringing it in, and treat or seal exposed timber.
- Schedule periodic inspections, especially after a swarm season — early detection is everything. See how to prevent termites.
